START– Sustainable Energy Harvesting Systems Based on Innovative Mine Waste Recycling

START project’s primary objective is to build an innovation ecosystem in the European Union (EU) related to the development of sustainable and economically viable tellurium-free thermoelectric (TE) waste heat harvesting systems, to be applied in heavy industry, maritime industry and also as primary power source for off-grid sensors and IoT devices.

The project’s main activities include:

  • the selection of mines with potential for tetrahedrite ore recovery based on tailings, physical separation and concentration of the ore;
  • the modeling and processing of the materials to make up the TE;
  • characterization of the materials;
  • the production of the TE and its validation and demonstration;
  • innovation and exploration strategy.

3drivers’ role consists of carrying out the life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle cost analysis (LCC) of the TE to be developed, as well as determining its industrial and economic viability and contribution to sustainable development.

START is a project funded by Horizon Europe and the consortium includes companies and organizations from 11 European countries.
