This project aimed to develop simulators that involved modeling the technological processes that make up the waste processing value chain, in order to calculate costs and effective recycling rates depending on the products that compose packaging waste and the destinations to which they are sent. The simulators also make it possible to determine the environmental impacts of processes using a life cycle assessment (LCA) approach.
SimRecicla comprises three simulators with different purposes:
– “Where do I put my packaging”: calculates the impact of packaging waste sorting and disposal practices;
– “I want to improve the recyclability of packaging”: calculates the impact of the production options, materials and components adopted;
– “I want to optimize a sorting line”: calculates the recovery of materials in a packaging sorting line, according to the sequencing of different operations and equipment.
The project was developed by Tratolixo, 3drivers, and Instituto Superior Técnico, and was supported by Sociedade Ponto Verde.
