The main aim of this project was to raise awareness, train, and qualify the granite and similar stone extraction and processing sector regarding the circular economy, eco-innovation, and environmental impacts.
The project therefore included drawing up a report to diagnose the current situation in the sector, mapping and surveying companies in the Tâmega e Sousa sub-region. The results obtained also provided the Penafiel Business Association (AEP) with the knowledge to define an intervention strategy to promote the circular economy and eco-innovation in this sector.
In the second phase of the project, a Manual of Good Circular and Eco-innovative Practices applied to the granite and similar stone sector was developed. This manual, which presents 27 actions and good practices spread over 6 strategic axes, was the result of a process involving companies in the sector, namely in design thinking activities, which complemented the benchmarking carried out.
